The shape variety and temperature contrasts, and of course the dramatic LIGHT, made this landscape view an obvious choice for a painting. After exploring the composition in smaller studies in both oil and pastel, I tackled this large oil. The location is a spot in the central Oregon Cascades, which has been one of my favorite places for wintertime plein air painting.
