This piece was inspired by the light sifting through the mountains in Blowing Rock, NC at sunset one evening last summer. I enjoyed the view from the overlook and was mesmerized by the way the sun lit up the face of that one mountain and sprayed across the valley as it set. It was awesome to behold. I loved those colors but felt the composition needed that extra push so I added those eagles at the very end. I started this piece with a grisaille underpainting of burnt sienna to maintain the value and atmospheric perspective. Three passes of color were placed layering veils of washes over to establish the atmosphere in this piece.
