Land and Sea

I was mesmerized by the waves hitting this rock at La Jolla Cove. I just kept seeing the land divided from the sea and marveling at the fluidity of water and the solidity of the land with each set of waves. Always seeking to capture the emotion of the moment in my work, I wanted that strong contrast using larger simplified shapes in the rock and the exaggerated spray of the wave. I was in awe (and truthfully a bit wet over time) as I completed this work en plein air in oil.
