The Life of a Grapefruit

This grapefruit seemed to be posing for an artist. Sitting in warm sun and cool shadows on a plaid tablecloth. Its gold form rising against a distant curtain of fuschia bougainvillea. The day after painting it I found the fruit had been completely hollowed out of its golden peeling by some unseen vermin.
