Sunset at the Pirate's Cove

I was in Galesville, Maryland for a 5 days sculpting workshop with Rick Casali at the beginning of the month of January. When I stopped at the Pirate's Cove restaurant for dinner, I was struck by the beauty of the sunset. I decided to return again and painted on the spot. Since it was sunsetting quickly and passersby asked a couple of questions about my work, I knew I wouldn't have time to finish it. I took plenty of photos for the rich authenticity of the atmosphere and the colors I wanted already blocked in. All I needed was to finish the painting back at home in Michigan. It was done with oil.
