Isaiah

This is a portrait on a blue background of one of my elementary art students, who was now in middle school, and doing yard work to make some spending money. When he finished planting a bed of flowers, he was so proud, and I was able to capture his grin in a quick photo which I used as my reference. The surface is a wet media board treated with an underpainting of watercolor and marble dust. Then before beginning the pastel work, I used the bottom of my tennis shoe to stamp a few acrylic patterns on the background which became part of the fabric of the pastel background.
