The Hoover Tower is the historic home of the 31st President's Collection of early 20th century documents and books on war, revolution and peace. For perspective on its holdings, "A 1941 TIME magazine article described the Library and Archives as “the world’s greatest collection of incendiary literature” and “a storehouse of most of the social and political dynamite of our times.” The tower architecture was inspired by the Cathedral of Salamanca and Mexico City. The architect, Arthur Brown, Jr., took the red-tiled roofs and mixture of byzantine and romanesque sandstone architecture of the original campus quad and reinterpreted it in the Art Deco style. The soft golden facade of this San Francisco Bay Area Landmark transforms throughout the day and the seasons in a sort of kaleidoscope of colored highlight and shadow.
