The Rescue

I snapped a picture of my daughter when she was younger, holding a wounded cedar waxwing that had fallen on our driveway. I was moved by the way this exquisite wild bird was so calm and trusting as she held it in her hand. The surface is wet media board treated with an underpainting of watercolor and marble dust. Pastel was applied only to the highlighted areas, leaving the underpainting to show in much of the painting.
